Getting Your Minnesota Marriage License For Your Elopement

So you want to elope in the North Star State??? Good for you, I am here for it and you won’t regret it! You got the hard part out of the way, you chose a state (and honestly there is time to choose exact locations, spend some time with me and I will have you talked into eloping on the shores of Lake Superior)!

1. You need to obtain a marriage license! Go to this link and start your paperwork application! https://moms.mn.gov/application/Welcome
   • You can get it from any office in the state, it does NOT have to be in the county you plan to get married in/elope in. 

2. Both parties must  appear in person with a valid ID to complete the marriage license paperwork and to actually receive the license! (ie- Photo ID & SS Card)

3. Licenses cost between $50-$125. (this will change if you took marriage counseling classes or not).

4. You will need this piece of paper the day of your wedding/elopement. So bring it!!!

5. If you have me as your elopement photographer (please), I can sign off as the officiant (so easy and effortless)!

6. You will need two “witnesses”, basically two people to sign off on your license (both must be 18 years or older).
   • This can be fun, some couples go get a celebratory coffee/beer/pizza after their ceremony and find two other patrons in the bar/cafe to sign off! 🙂 Something they and you will never forget!
