If you’re from Minnesota, or the midwest really, you know that weather is quite inclement here. While we can’t know when it is going to rain or snow, we can definitely make decisions on times of the year based on your preferences. Such as, do you like a warm sunny day, a cold snowy day or a brisk fall day?
Whatever season you choose, I promise you Minnesota is a great choice for eloping! While I am partial to the scenic North Shore, I’ll meet you anytime, anywhere! Let’s start planning!
Spring. Who doesn’t love to see the first sign of green grass and buds on the trees? Spring can be a great time to get outside for an elopement.
Pros- Won’t be crazy busy.
Cons- Could be muddy and still have packed down ice on trails.
Summer. This is a favorite of many people due to people having time off work or children being out of school, but let’s be honest, you don’t have to worry about other people’s schedules!
Pros- Sunshine & warmth… usually! Not needing to layer clothing because of the comfort of the season. Longer daylight hours, more time to shoot photos. Trees will be full and luscious.
Cons- Busy. Plain and simple, families and groups get out during the summer and can make certain areas crowded.
Fall. A beautiful change to the trees and the heat. So many people love eloping in the fall, and I don’t blame them!
Pros- Comfortable weather. Fall days bring on a comfortable cool breeze to cool you down. The fall foliage can’t be beat. It cools down so you can always bring a cute jacket to cover up with.
Cons- Busy. So many people love to get out and hike, especially on the North Shore. If your heart is set on the North Shore, just remember that there will be many people out enjoying the last of the comfortable weather. Another con is that there could be surprise snow storms.
Winter. Snow in photos is beautiful, especially after a fresh fall when the snow clings to the trees.
Pros- It is going to be less busy. Winter can be so cozy and might prompt you to add things like hot cocoa or hot coffee into your shoot. Winter activities such as snowshoeing, snow boarding or skiing can bring out a lot of fun during your elopement.
More likely to have potential delays due to road conditions. Less daylight hours for shooting photos. Extreme cold can limit time outdoors.
