The North Shore of Minnesota is one of the best places to elope in the Midwest. From Duluth up to Grand Portage, there are so many lovely places to commit yourselves to one another. But where will you stay for your elopement adventure? I have some amazing spots picked out for you if you want a true “Up North” experience.
What is the “Up North” experience? Well as a Minnesota native I have a few “musts” for every place I stay at that would give it the Up North vibe. Some “musts” include a sauna, a cabin vibe (whether a new A Frame or an old pine log cabin), views of Lake Superior (or smaller inland lakes) and privacy (I also highly recommend being within 15 miles of a coffee shop)! I have found some amazing cabins that include almost all of these factors, so make sure to check them out and snag your elopement date!
So many of my couples love to elope near Tettegouche State Park, hands down my favorite state park in the state, so we will start with that region. Tettegouche State Park is about 45 minutes North of Two Harbors and has amazing views. Some “hot spots” for eloping couples are Palisade Head, Shovel Point, Ilgen Falls and Black Beach (not technically in the state park, but not far)!
I have shot at these specific cabins, and literally you can’t beat them. They have huge windows facing Lake Superior, so imagine watching the sunrise in your loft, drinking a cup of coffee and snuggling.

This spot seems to have an amazing view of Lake Superior. Totally want to stay here, brew some coffee and wake up to watch the sunrise!

This is for those who want to have a microwedding with family! This place is incredible and has room to fit a family (12 beds & 6 baths). The views of Baptism River are absolutely amazing and it has a log cabin vibe!

You can’t get any more “Up North” than by camping in a tent, but this tent has some structure and will be warm at night! You aren’t far from running water and the bathrooms, but this tent does not include running water inside.

This is an old 1970’s A-Frame that they have renovated to match today’s style. It is amazing and has such great views of Lake Superior! This cabin is also tucked on 40 acres of land, so you will have privacy!

Planning where you stay for your elopement is very important because it is where you will spend your morning getting ready for the big day and where you will end your day. Many couples choose to stay multiple days after their elopement to enjoy the area. This area includes such great gems such as Black Beach, Ilgen Falls, Palisade Head and beautiful sections of the Superior Hiking Trail.
