When planning your elopement adventure, keep in mind what you may need to pack for this activity. If there is an activity that you are wanting to do but don’t want to travel with the gear, the campus of University of Minnesota Duluth has a great array of outdoor gear that is up for rent! Items include paddle boards, canoes, skis, kayaks and more.

Since you two are the ones getting married, bringing your vows is going to be very important. I’d suggest not just “winging it”. Many people like to have a hand written note to go off from, something from the heart. I would suggest writing your vows down on a piece of paper or a vow book. Having to take out your phone isn’t as cute as reading chicken scratch off your folded up piece of paper.

Most elopement days consist of 4-8 hours of coverage. Within that time frame you are probably going to get hungry. Many couples will pack a cooler bag with drinks and snacks. Some easy popular snacks for a trail include trail mix, fruit or jerky.
Making sure that you pack enough water is key if you are planning a longer hike or more strenuous activity for your elopement day.
I like to suggest picnic items as this can make for cute photo opportunities. Some people like to plan a beach picnic on the shores of Lake Superior after their vows have been finished and they are officially married! Popular items for a beach picnic are charcuterie boards, sandwiches, cake or pie.
Some people like to bring champagne and/or beer to celebrate their big moment. Champagne can be really fun to pop and enjoy right after sealing the deal. Beer can be enjoyed after a hot day of hiking. There isn’t really a bad time for beer is there?

This might seem boring, but it is a big deal!
Every state has their own rules regarding a marriage license. I am based in Minnesota and can tell you that you need to complete an online application through the MN Official Marriage System. (you will need to know which county you plan to be married in and pick up the license in that county). You’ll also need to bring your ID’s and form of payment to pay for the license. All this can be done in one day.
I am officially ordained and can officiate. One less thing for you to figure out-YAY!
Minnesota requires two witnesses over the age of 16. These can be two random people we meet on a trail or can find in a coffee shop!

I have seen so many cute things incorporated into an elopement day that I want to mention here.
Some people pack letters from their loved ones to read at their elopement “ceremony”. Bringing your doggos along for the adventure! Bringing your something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue can be an item you can take from the “typical” wedding category. Wedding day gifts to one another can be a really sweet way to celebrate your love for one another.
Each elopement is vastly different, so making sure you are packing for your big day. Weather and activities will be the two biggest factors as far as your packing list! I would always make sure to reach out to your photographer to chat more closely with them as the day approaches!
